First haircut

On Saturday, May 14, Geoff and I took Liam to get his first haircut. His hair was getting a bit untidy in the back, and since Geoff and I did not want to be accused of forcing a baby mullet on our son, off to the barber shop we went! Lan, the lady who cuts Geoff's hair, was very nice and patient, and Liam was very brave! He did not scream or cry, but I must confess that his mother did tear up a bit as the baby hair started falling to the floor. Liam acted like such a big boy, and now he looks more like a 2 year old than ever! Calm, cool, and collected!

Overall, Liam is a very happy guy. He laughs and smiles all day long, unless you try to take his picture. You can see from some of our Easter shots in previous posts, Liam DOES NOT do posed pictures. Here is his spring picture from school. Not only did I forget and send him to school in an orange striped dinosaur t-shirt, he did not smile at all. It looks like a mug shot or a Wanted poster! Bless his little heart!

Easter Part 3

After Easter basket exploration, it was time to get ready for church. I thought my men looked VERY handsome that morning, and they also told me I wasn't so bad myself. We are a little bit sad we couldn't manage a family picture. It's hard to do sometimes! Liam did fairly well in church. He was impressed with the pipe organ and the hand bell choir and paid careful attention to the music, but when it came time for the readings and the sermon, Geoff and I had to take turns taking him out of the sanctuary so Liam could get some of his wiggles out.
After church, we all got out of our church duds and headed out to enjoy the June-like weather! Liam brought his bubbles, and we headed to a neighbors' house to play with them and enjoy the toys they had brought outside. Liam was fascinated by the giant beach ball sprinkler.


Once we came back inside, we were all a bit thirsty. (That's not important news, but I just LOVE this shot of Liam. Look at those eyes! Isn't he beautiful? I know I am biased, but I truly think he is extremely good looking. I know I am going to have to beat the girls away with a stick!) We hope everyone had as enjoyable an Easter as we did! It was a wonderful day!

Easter Part 2

Easter morning, we all came downstairs to find that the Easter Bunny had indeed left some goodies for Liam: some books, bubbles, sidewalk chalk, and 2 puzzles.

The bubbles and the puzzles turned out to be the biggest hits! First he took the bubbles to Mama in hopes of seeing some nice, BIG bubbles, but Mama turned out to not be very good at blowing big bubbles, so Liam decided to try to blow some himself.

When that didn't work so well either, he briefly turned to his puzzles (one with safari animals and one with construction vehicles).

After some puzzle time, he took his bubbles to Dada, who, it turns out, is a bubble master!

Bubbles seem to be a great way to start any morning! Stay tuned for one more Easter post!

Easter Part 1

Needless to say, we took a LOT of pictures Easter weekend. There are far too many good ones to post in one entry, so I decided to break Easter into sections. This one deals with dyeing the eggs. Geoff took Liam outside while I got the dye cups and an old t-shirt ready. Then the real fun began! I showed Liam how to use the metal egg dipper, but he preferred a more hands-on approach.

This turned out to be a messy idea.

He was pretty impressed with how the eggs changed colors. In fact, he got so excited that he peed on his Mama's lap. Geoff snapped a picture of the incident. I was not amused by either the incident OR the photo, but it's now funny enough to share.

First trip to the zoo!

Liam took his first trip to the zoo on Sunday, April 17th. Geoff and I had been waiting for nice weather to make this happen, and Mother Nature finally cooperated with us! Liam has been roaring like a lion for some time, and he LOVES the book Good Night, Gorilla. So we knew the zoo would be magical for him. Just look at his face as he sees the lions for the first time!

He entertained everyone around us by growling and pointing continuously as he stared at the lions. They were pretty impressive!

Liam also really liked the big apes. He talked to the orangutans and REALLY liked the gorillas, who decided to put on a show for us. One of the big ones banged his chest and yelled at the crowd, and the baby gorilla just played and played, rolling down the hill, running through his tunnel, and copying the adult gorillas.

Lastly, Liam was impressed with the mock farm/petting zoo. The goats, pigs, and cows were friendly, and Liam thought mooing at them all was the right thing to do. He got so excited that at one point he tried to get through the fence, but we were able to keep him on the right side of the fence with us!It was a magical day that ended too quickly. Due to Liam's nap, we weren't able to go see the pandas, elephants, or reptiles, but we plan to make another trip soon since there was an added benefit aside from Liam's excitement. He slept from 8 p.m-7 a.m., the longest and latest he's ever slept! That was an AWESOME start to my Spring Break! Hugs to all!

An 18 month update

Working on a puzzle

While we have not had an official 18 month check-up, I thought it might be nice to update you on Liam's development. When we got him evaluated for the surgery, he measured 33.5 inches tall (still 75% for height), and they weighed him twice. Once they got 28 lbs., and once they got 26 lbs. 6 ozs. It's probably somewhere in the middle, which would put him in the 50-75%.

As for other milestones, he is saying 20-25 words--picking up 3 news words since he got tubes 3 weeks ago: "ca-ca" for car, "shu-shu" for shoe, and "baBEE" for baby (imagine an Italian saying baby, and you'll get the inflection). His "Lella" (for Bella) is very clear, and he can answer questions by shaking his head no, or nodding yes. He LOVES circle time at school, and if I arrive to pick him up then, he will NOT leave until all the books, songs, and learning games are finished. His favorite books are the Eric Carle books--The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do You See? His favorite songs are "The Itsy Bitsy Spider" and the alphabet song, and he loves trying to learn colors and shapes. He knows circle--he can say the word (siuh-cuh) and point one out to you, and he loves the word "lellow" for yellow. When you ask him what color anything is, it's "lellow." We're working on that.

As for playtime, just about anything goes. He loves his cars, his puzzles, any type of ball, being chased, climbing on chairs and couches, running around in circles, and playing outside (especially on the slide).

Overall, we have a very happy, healthy boy who LOVES to learn and play. We love him so!
