Zagreb for Thanksgiving, part 1

You may or may not know that we had planned a trip to Brussels for Thanksgiving.  A friend I grew up with lives there now with her family, and there was a direct flight from Tel Aviv, so we knew it would be a lovely little getaway for all involved.  The attacks in Paris and subsequent level 4 terror alert/city-wide shut down in Brussels forced us to rethink our plans.  Fortunately, our good friends from Sarajevo, the Saxtons, with whom we vacationed with in June, invited us to their home in Zagreb, Croatia.  So we were able to get out of town and relax a bit after all.

It's funny.  We never visited Zagreb while we were in Sarajevo.  If we were visiting Croatia, we were hitting the coast!  But it turns out that Zagreb is a fantastic city!  It felt familiar, in that the language and people were the same friendly Balkan-types, but Zagreb has much more influence from Austria and Italy, and due to its predominantly Catholic population, it even felt and looked like Christmas!

On Thanksgiving morning, our first full day there, the Saxtons showed us around some of the city's attractions.
